RUBY WALSH is excited about his ride on Denman in Saturday’s Hennessy Gold Cup.
Paul Nicholls’ must saddle top weight in the Newbury contest as he did when winning a handicap off mark of 161. But having since won the Cheltenham Gold Cup he must race off 174 this weekend.
Though Walsh thinks it is a tough task to win off such a mark, after riding Denman in a racecourse gallop at Exeter last week the jockey believes it is not beyond the nine-year-old.
Walsh said: “I can’t wait to ride him.
He’s got a huge weight and a huge task in front of him on Saturday but I can’t see too many other horses being up to it really.
“He’s a big, strapping horse and hopefully he’ll put in a good performance.”
