CONNECTIONS of Tidal Bay are hoping he can build on his recent Aintree second in today’s totesport.com Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon.
The Howard Johnson-trainer 2008 Arkle hero has not won for more than a year, but after a breathing operation during the summer he made a pleasing return to action when chasing home Monet’s Garden in the Old Roan Chase at Aintree at the end of October.
The eight-year-old bypassed possible clashes with Kauto Star in the Betfair Chase at Haydock and Twist Magic in last weekend’s Tingle Creek, but owner Graham Wylie is hoping their patience can be rewarded in this afternoon’s 2m4f Grade Two contest.
Wylie said: “We are looking forward to getting him back on the track.
“It’s taken a while to find the right race for him. We’d had a look at the Betfair Chase and the Tingle Creek but the ground was too soft. We had a look at the Boylesports but thought he would be too high in the handicap.
“This looks a good opportunity over two and a half miles on a bit of decent ground so we’ll just see how he goes.”
Racing Demon has won this race twice before but trainer Henrietta Knight thinks he will be hard-pressed to bring up the hat-trick on his start for 593 days.
She said: “He’s very well and he’s ready to run. He likes Huntingdon but he faces pretty stout opposition this time.
“It looks a very good race but he does get 10lb off some of those.”
Last year’s King George runner-up Albertas Run returned his best to win the Amlin 1965 Chase at Ascot last time. The eight-year-old beat William Hill Gold Cup winner Planet Of Sound by three lengths with Voy Por Ustedes back in third and trainer Jonjo O’Neill said: “He came out of Ascot well and he seems in good form. If he runs up to his form from Ascot, he’ll take all the beating.”
TODAY’S NAP: Red Rattle (3pm Huntingdon).
