Barry Geraghty set for Burton Port ride in Hennessy Gold Cup

NICKY HENDERSON will give Barry Geraghty the ride Burton Port in Saturday’s Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury despite it meaning he will carry overweight.

Henderson’s six-year-old has won five times in six starts over fences. He only reverse was when second to Weapons Amnesty in the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

With top-weight Denman bidding for a hat-trick in teh race Burton Port is already due to race from 4lb out of the handicap in Saturday’s big race.

But if owner Trevor Hemmings allows Geraghty to take the ride, he will effectively be racing from 6lb out of the weights as Geraghty’s lowest riding weight is 10st2lb, 2lb higher than the 10st he has been allotted.
