TWO weeks tomorrow sees the start of the John Smith’s Grand National meeting which opens with Liverpool Day on April 7.
And the Liverpool Daily Post has teamed up with Aintree racecourse to offer readers the chance to win one of the six pairs of tickets on offer for the opening day of the three-day meeting.
It promises to another spectacular meeting with Saturday’s John Smith’s Grand National the highlight.
But following the success of last year’s renaming of the Thursday of the meeting as Liverpool Day, there is again a full line-up of Liverpool-inspired entertainment as well as a high-quality seven-race card featuring the totesport Bowl and the John Smith’s Foxhunters’ Chase run over one circuit of the Grand National course.
The day opens with the BGC Partners Liverpool Hurdle, where World Hurdle hat-trick hero Big Buck’s will also bid for a third successive win in the extended 3m Grade One contest.
Off the track this year’s entertainment features a headline set from Mersey band The Farm and performances throughout the day from other local bands including the Merseycats, The Paul Kappa Band, Alternative Radio and a number of new artists from the Threshold Festival.
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra has also commissioned a special piece of music in celebration of Liverpool Day, which will be played before the first race, which is at 2pm.
Admission for Liverpool Day starts at £21.
And tickets for all three days of the meeting are still available, although certain enclosures are sold out for the Friday and Saturday.
