KALAHARI King will try and turn the tables on Albertas Run in the John Smith’s Melling Chase at Aintree two weeks tomorrow.
Ferdy Murphy’s 10-year-old finished second to Albertas Run in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham.
And now he will return to Aintree, where he has won a Grade One Novices’ Chase, but fell at the second fence in the Friday feature 12 months ago.
Murphy said: “He’s on course for the Melling and he has come out of Cheltenham in great form.
“He ran a great race in the Ryanair and has taken the race fantastic. We’ll probably meet Albertas Run again, but we’re looking forward to it.
“Our horse likes Aintree and won a Grade One there.
“This is his time of year and hopefully he’ll run another big race.”
Another of the West Witton’s trainer string who ran well at Cheltenham, Divers, will not head to Aintree.
Divers won the Centenary Novices’ Handicap Chase at the Festival, but Murphy said: “Divers is finished for the season. He’s gone up 7lb in the weights and we wouldn’t want that to go up any more at this stage.
“The next time you’ll see him will be in the Paddy Power Gold Cup back at Cheltenham in November.”
Another horse on course for Aintree is David Arbuthnot’s unbeaten hurdler Topolski.
The five-year-old has won impressively at Sandown and Newton Abbot and his trainer is looking to step him up in class next month.
Arbuthnot said: “I was absolutely delighted with him last time and he has come out of the race great.
“I think we’ll aim towards to Liverpool with him now as he deserves to take his chance in one of those better races.
“His form is good. He had Megastar in third at Sandown and he ran very well at Cheltenham last week.
“He beat Victor Dartnall’s horse (Shammick Boy) at Newton Abbot, who hadn’t done anything wrong, either, so I’m very happy with how he’s doing.”
