Lady in waiting for Ascot

LADY Of The Desert will head straight for Royal Ascot after skipping a trip to Haydock for the betfred.com Temple Stakes this weekend.

Trained by Brian Meehan, the filly emerged as one of the best sprinters in Europe last season.

After failing to convince over a mile, she was second in the Haydock Sprint Cup, won the Diadem Stakes and was narrowly denied in the Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp.

She is in both the King’s Stand and the Golden Jubilee, with connections currently favouring the shorter King’s Stand.

Bruce Raymond, owner Jaber Abdullah’s racing manager, said: “I think we are going to keep her for Ascot.

“What work we have done with her is okay but after discussions with Jaber, we were talking about York and then Haydock but he said let’s wait for Ascot and the second half of the season. We are looking at five furlongs (King’s Stand) unless we think six is necessary.”
