Richard Fahey’s unbeaten Lily’s Angel bids for more glory in the Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley

LILY’S ANGEL puts her unbeaten record on the line in this evening’s Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley.

The Richard Fahey-trained youngster has won three from three starts so far this spring having won over course and distance at the start of April under Brian McHugh.

Following another win at Newcastle, the Dark Angel filly landed the Lily Agnes Stakes at Chester under Warrington’s champion jockey Paul Hanagan.

The 30-year-old will again be in the saddle in this evening when Lily’s Angel will bid to book her ticket to Royal Ascot with victory in one of the most informative juvenile contests in the early part of the season.

She runs in the colours of Middleham Park Racing and racing manager Tim Palin is looking forward to this evening, and a possible bid for more glory at the Royal meeting is all goes well.

Palin said: “Most of the owners are based in the north and, personally, this is a race I’ve always wanted to win. The Hilary Needler may not be a Listed race any more but, from a breeding and purchasing point of view, it still means everything.

“Thankfully we’ve got a horse that is not just good enough to run in the race, but also has a very good chance.

“The obvious place to go was either here, or wait for Royal Ascot.

“But we can’t make up our mind whether we should go for the Queen Mary or Albany, so we are really just trying to find out a little bit more about her.”

TODAY’S NAP: Lily’s Angel (7.30pm Beverley).
