CARLTON House was among the 13 entries for tomorrow’s Investec Derby at yesterday’s final declaration stage. But a final decision on the whether the Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt – who is owned by The Queen – will line up at Epsom is expected today.
The Street Cry colt had been favourite for the race since his victory in the Dante Stakes at York last month. But after a swelling on his near fore leg following a work-out earlier this week, his position at the head of the market has been under threat from the Andre Fabre-trained Prix Greffulhe winner Pour Moi.
Aidan O’Brien sends a four-strong team headed by Dante runner-up Seville and Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial winner Recital as well as Mem-phis Tennessee and Treasure Beach.
Recital will be partnered by Kieren Fallon and O’Brien said: “Recital is a very brilliant horse with an instant turn of toe. He has plenty of class and usually a horse with plenty of class that travels like he travels usually won't have any problems (around Epsom).”
Also in the Derby line-up are Ed Dunlop’s 2,000 Guineas third Native Khan, Godolphin’s Mahmood Al Zarooni-trained Ocean War, Alain de Royer-Dupre’s Vadamar, Dante third Pisco Sour, Castlemorris King, Marhaba Malyoon and Masked.
TOMORROW’S INVESTEC DERBY PREDICTION:1 RECITAL 2 Seville 3 Treasure Beach.
