Double jubilee raid planned by Roger Charlton

ROGER CHARLTON is looking forward to saddling the progressive Bated Breath and his durable stablemate Genki in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot next week.

The four-year-old Bated Breath remains very much unexposed having won five of his eight racecourse starts and he impressed when winning a Windsor Listed event at the end of last month.

Genki is at the other end of the scale and is three years older than his stablemate, but Charlton feels he is better than his recent seventh in the Duke Of York Stakes suggests.

“Bated Breath is an intended runner in the Golden Jubilee along with Genki,” said Charlton.

“I would imagine Steve Drowne will stick with Bated Breath and Genki will probably be ridden by Richard Hughes.

“Bated Breath probably has a little bit to find, maybe a couple of a lengths, but I think he is younger than most of the horses in the race, so lets hope he’s improving more.

“I think with hindsight the race at York didn’t really suit Genki last time.

“I think Ascot is more his track - as long as the ground doesn’t become loose.

“He needs a career-best performance to win a race like the Golden Jubilee but if everything went smoothly, I could see him running well.”
