MUSSELBURGH maiden winner Sound Advice is set for a big jump in class to contest the 32Red.com Superlative Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.
Keith Dalgleish’s youngster overcame a tardy start to come through and win in taking fashion in Scotland and his trainer is excited to see how he will fare when stepped up to Group Two level at the prestigious July Festival.
“I’d say he’s 90% sure to go for the good race at Newmarket on Saturday,” said Dalgleish.
“I thought he was very impressive first time out. Maybe the overall margin wasn’t impressive, but he stumbled down to his knees coming out of the stalls and to get going again and do what he did was very good. It’s a massive step up in class for him this weekend but I believe in the horse and we’ll see what happens.
“He always did go well at home, but he’s quite laid back and he probably didn’t show as much spark on the gallops as he did in the race itself.
“All he could do was beat the horses he was against and I’m really looking forward to seeing how he gets on in a higher grade.”
Meanwhile ground conditions will dictate whether Point North takes his chance in Saturday’s 52nd John Smith’s Cup at York.
Jeremy Noseda’s Nottingham and Kempton winner was a leading fancy for the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot on his latest start, but finished a disappointing 14th of the 28 runners.
Some give in the ground is essential if he is to take up any of his engagements this week. Barry Simpson, racing manager for owner Sir Robert Ogden, said: “He does want slightly softer ground and unless it is absolutely right for him, he won’t run anywhere.”
