CLASSIC winners Blue Bunting and Treasure Beach are among a quality 36-strong entry for the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster on September 10.
The Mahmood Al Zarooni-trained filly has already won both the QIPCO 1,000 Guineas and Darley Irish Oaks while Treasure Beach – one of 10 entries from Ballydoyle – landed the Irish Derby for Aidan O’Brien after finishing runner-up to Pour Moi in the Investec Derby at Epsom.
Godolphin’s Blue Bunting is a best-priced 12-1 for the Leger, while Treasure is as low as 4-1 with some firms, but a best-priced 8-1 with Stan James and Sportingbet.
The current favourite is John Gosden’s Nathaniel and he is a best-priced 9-2 with Sportingbet.
Gosden has won the final Classic of the season three times in past and also has three other entries in Bahrain Trophy victor Masked Marvel, Thimaar and Buthelezi.
But it is King Edward VII Stakes winner Nathaniel who is main entry. But before any Classic bid he will aim for a first Group One success after being supplemented for Saturday’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.
Blue Bunting is one of four entries for trainer Al Zarooni along with Casamento, Genius Beast and French Navy while fellow Godolphin trainer Saeed bin Suroor, has just Leicester maiden winner Laatafreet this time.
As well as Treasure Beach, O’Brien could call on Seville, Wonder Of Wonders and Memphis Tennessee in his bid for a fourth win in the race.
Former Liverpool and England striker Michael Owen could seek a first Classic victory with his home-bred colt, the Tom Dascombe-trained Brown Panther, winner of the King George V Handicap at Royal Ascot and fifth in the German Derby.
TODAY’S NAP: Whiskey Junction (6.50pm Doncaster).
