Favourite Sea Moon heads the entries for the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster

SEA MOON, the hot favourite for the Ladbrokes St Leger, was among the 17 horses left in the final Classic of the season at Doncaster two weeks on Saturday.

Sir Michael Stoute’s colt is a best-priced 6-4 with the sponsors after his impressive victory in the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York – his third win in four career starts.

All his main rivals remain includingGodolphin’s Blue Bunting, who will bid for a third Classic success following wins in the 1,000 Guineas and Irish Oaks, as well as last week’s Yorkshire Oaks.

The most notable absentees were Sea Moon’s stablemate Fiorente and the Aidan O’Brien-trained Treasure Beach. O’Brien has Seville, Wonder Of Wonders, Apache, Freedom and Regent Street.

A likely outsider is Andrew Balding’s Whiplash Willie, who won competitive handicaps at Salisbury and Glorious Goodwood earlier this summer and was second in the Melrose at York last week.Balding said: “Whiplash Willie would want plenty of rain but the St Leger is an option.”
