FRANKIE DETTORI will miss out on the chance of a hat-trick of successes in the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup after he picked up a suspension at Haydock on Saturday.
The Italian won the prestigious handicap for David Nicholls on Redford 12 months ago, having also landed the six-furlong sprint with the Clive Cox-trained Jimmy Styles back in 2009.
But Dettori was found guilty of careless riding on the unplaced Merchant Of Dubai in the Betfred Bundles Old Borough Cup, which was won by Bauer, and was handed a one-day suspension, meaning he will miss the Ayr feature a week on Saturday.
Dettori’s agent, Ray Cochrane, said: “To my knowledge, because it’s not a Group One day, it can’t be changed.”
