Masked Marvel gives John Gosden and William Buick another victory in the Ladbrokes St Leger

JOHN GOSDEN celebrated dual Classic success on Saturday as Masked Marvel gave him a second successive Ladbrokes St Leger victory and Duncan dead-heated with Jukebox Jury in the Irish equivalent.

Masked Marvel (15-2) under stable jockey and Liverpool FC fan William Buick added to their success on Arctic Cosmos 12 months ago.

Masked Marvel beat the Michael Owen-owned Brown Panther (15-2) by three lengths with 2-1 favourite Sea Moon a further half-length back in third. Gosden said: “Last year was a dream and this is another one. From the first day I saw him as a yearling at Deauville, I just thought he was that type.

“He was a powerful little guy then and he’s got a great pedigree for this job. To win the oldest Classic with this horse is what we’ve planned for about two years – sometimes it works. He has always looked like a Leger type. We ran him in the Derby which is the best trial and he didn’t handle the track.”

Buick, with two wins from two Leger rides, said: “It was a really good performance.”

TODAY’S NAP: Silvanus (5.20pm Musselburgh).
