Sir Michael Stoute voices concerns over firm ground at Longchamp for Workforce’s bid for back-to-back wins in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe

SIR MICHAEL STOUTE is concerned about fast ground as Workforce bids for back-to-back wins in Sunday’s Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp.

With the warm, dry week in Paris the Newmarket trainer does is hoping conditions are not too quick for his four-year-old, who won Europe’s premier middle-distance championship contest last season.

Stoute said: “I’ve been really happy with his preparation, but disappointed to hear about the weather forecast because he’s a big heavy horse and we do like good ground for him.

“We’re a long way from it at the moment and someone’s going to have a look at the track and give us an update.

“I am concerned about the ground. We’re very happy with his condition and it looks a particularly strong renewal of the Arc this year. It’s disappointing we’re having this Indian summer in Paris. He’s had a nice break after the King George, like he did last year, and I’ve been very happy with his preparation.”

At yesterday’s final supplementary stage John Gosden's Ladbrokes St Leger hero Masked Marvel was among three horses added to the field at a cost of 100,000 euro. But as expected Gosden’s King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Nathaniel was not.

Also added to the field were Andre Fabre’s Grand Prix de Paris winner Meandre and the improving German filly Danedream.

There are currently 16 in the race ahead of today’s final declaration stage, and all-important draw.

Another set to run in the Arc is Ed Dunlop’s star filly Snow Fairy, who was only just beaten by one of Sunday’s rivals So You Think in the Irish Champion Stakes last time. Frankie Dettori replaces Ryan Moore, who will partner Workforce.

TODAY’S NAP: Mikeys Sister (7.15pm Wolverhampton).
