GORDON ELLIOTT is targeting Chicago Grey at the John Smith’s Grand National and an excellent return to action at Wetherby on Saturday.
Elliott, who won the Aintree marathon in 2007 with Silver Birch, has the National as a long-term aim for the eight-year-old, who was third to Donald McCain’s Weird Al in Saturday’s bet365 Charlie Hall Chase.
The likely first major aim or Chicago Grey is the Welsh Grand National at Chepstow over Christmas, although Elliott ruled out going to Newbury first for for the Hennessy Gold Cup.
The Irish handler said: “He ran a great race and has come out it perfect. We'll be looking at the long-distance races with him now.
“The Welsh National first and the Grand National long-term for him.
“He's entered in the Hennessy but I might just give it a miss as they might run him off his feet at Newbury.”
TODAY’S NAP: Captain Chris (2.50pm Exeter).
