Jason Maguire looking forward to riding Overturn in the Coral Hurdle at Ascot

JASON MAGUIRE can’t wait to be reunited with front-runner Overturn in the Coral Hurdle at Ascot tomorrow.

The John Smith’s Grand National jockey has been off the track since being injured in a fall at Cartmel in August. But he was back in action at Hereford yesterday afternoon after being given the all-clear by British Horseracing Authority chief medical advisor Dr Michael Turner.

Maguire returned with a winner when partnering Kim Bailey’s 18-1 shot Bonne Fee to victory in the bumper in the last.

He is riding at Haydock today when he partners three with live chances for Donald McCain in Desert Cry, part-owned by Everton FC manager David Moyes, Tornado Bob and Super Duty. But he will head south tomorrow to McCain’s Chester Cup winner Overturn, who returns to hurdling following success on the Flat during the summer. Maguire said: “I won on him at Perth and he’s getting a good bit at the weights from Oscar Whisky, so if he’s ever going to beat him, he’ll have the chance on Saturday.

“He’s a bold front-runner and he’s always looked as though a step up in trip might suit him and the track should suit him.

“I’ve been busy doing a lot of schooling and Dr Turner has kindly let me back a day or two early.”
