I'll prove myself to Dragons fans

ON-LOAN striker Robbie Foy is hoping to use his spell at Wrexham to put himself in the "shop window".

The Edinburgh-born marksman is with the Dragons until January 1 and is delighted to be given the opportunity to play regular first-team football after three seasons with Liverpool reserves - who, ironically, use the Racecourse Ground to host their home matches.

Foy said: "I'm looking to use my time at Wrexham to put myself in the shop window and make a name for myself.

"If you're playing reserve team football you tend not to get recognised and I've been doing that for three years now.

"Hopefully I can do well here and people will be able to see just what I'm capable of."

Manager Denis Smith revealed that he was pleased with Foy's progress but is wary that people expect too much too soon from a player who does not turn 20 until next month.

He said: "Robbie has come straight from playing reserve team football to League Two - it's a totally different game.

"But he's adjusting to it and he'll get there.

"He's settled in quite well and has lots of promise.

"Robbie's just 19 and these days people expect everyone to be like Wayne Rooney at that age but players progress at different levels.

" He ' s only played alongside Jonathan Walters but they're working well together and developing a good understanding.

"Robbie's a lively player, but I'd describe him as sharp rather than quick. "I'd also say he's got a good touch." Foy had a similar loan deal at Chester City last season but failed to score in any of his 13 appearances.

So it has obviously been a big relief for him to net a couple of strikes early in his Wrexham spell.

"I thought I played well at Chester and I did everything but score," he said.

"I'm happy with my form here but managing to get some goals has been a big boost. Getting the first goal is always the hardest.
