GOALS from James Ellison, Lauri Dalla Valle and Marvin Pourie helped Liverpool under-18s make it four wins from their first five matches as they won 3-0 at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
Hugh McAuley’s side continued their excellent start to the FA Premier Academy League season with another comfortable victory in Yorkshire.
Liverpool started brightly and had chances from Dalla Valle and Eccleston. They opened the scoring after seven minutes when Ellison finished after Dalla Valle’s shot came back off the keeper following good work from Adam Pepper and Eccleston.
There were no further goals until the second half when Dalla Valle scored his third of the season from 12 yards after Eccleston’s pass on 70 minutes.
Then substitute Pourie scored a superb individual effort to complete the win 10 minutes from time, the German fired into the top corner after going past the centre-back.
McAuley was happy with his side’s performance and said: “It was a good game of football and I thought we controlled the game from start to finish. We were the better team on the day and Sheffield Wednesday didn’t cause us any real problems.
“It was pleasing to see that and score three goals without conceding any. All in all, a good afternoon’s work.”
Liverpool will look to continue their good start when they travel to Crewe Alexandra this Saturday (kick-off 11am).
McAuley said: “We have won four out of five, the only disappointment was losing at Coventry. But all we can do it try to improve. There are always things to improve on and work on.
“Our passing and our focus at times were careless and I am consistently aware we need to work defensively as a team to have a good shape all the time because we have a lot of attacking players. And when you have that you need to be able to defend as well.”
