11: 16th minute v Alaves 5-4 aet (Dortmund, UEFA Cup Final, May 16 2001): After Markus Babbel had opened the scoring, Gerrard doubled the lead when he got in on a superb through-ball from Michael Owen and rifled his shot past Herrera in the Alaves goal.
12: 46th minute v Aston Villa 1-3 (Home, Premier League, September 08 2001: Gerrard headed in an equaliser from Gary McAllister’s corner. Villa claimed it hadn’t crossed the line, but referee Andy D’Urso gave the goal.
13: 11th minute v Everton 3-1 (Away, Premier League, September 15 2001): GERRARD picked up the ball following a weak clearance by Gary Naysmith before attacking the full-back and firing a rising shot across goal to level the game.
14: 66th minute v Dynamo Kiev 2-1 (Away, Champions League, October 16 2001): PHIL THOMPSON, in charge after Gerard Houllier had suffered a heart attack the weekend before, led Liverpool to become the first British side to beat Kiev on home soil. Gerrard hit the winner and his first in the Champions League. Smicer’s header from Patrick Berger’s pass found Gerrard and his left-footer went in off Goran Gavrancic.
15: 50th minute v Bolton 1-1 (Home, Premier League, January 1 2002): GERRARD broke the deadlock midway through the first half. He knocked the ball through the packed Bolton defence and his pace and power took him through the gap before he slipped the ball past the advancing Jussi Jaaskelainen.
16: 49th minute v Birmingham 2-2 (Home, Premier League, September 11 2002): EL HADJI DIOUF robbed the ball from Robbie Savage and after a 50-yard run down the right, he laid if off to Gerrard, who smacked it into the far corner.
17: 66th minute v Aston Villa 4-3 (Away, League Cup, December 18 2002): Gerrard put Liverpool 3-1 ahead with his first goal in the League Cup. Milan Baros powered through from Owen’s towering header and inadvertently played it on to Gerrard for an assured finish into the right-hand corner of the net.
18: Ninth minute v West Ham 3-0 (Away, Premier League, February 02 2003): ANOTHER long-range special. Following John Arne Riise’s corner on the right David James could only punch unconvincingly to the edge of the box and after the ball wasn’t cleared by his defenders Gerrard rattled the ball low through the crowd of players and into the bottom corner.
19: 39th minute v Manchester United 2-0 (Cardiff, March 02 2003 N League Cup Final): John Arne Riise cut the ball back to Gerrard to let fly with a long-range which took a deflection from a cowering David Beckham and looped over a startled Fabien Barthez.
20: 82th minute v Tottenham 3-2 (Away, Premier League, March 16 2003 A): GERRARD scampered forward getting on the end of Danny Murphy and he broke free with a brilliant first touch. He charged on towards goal and discharged a superb drive past Kasey Keller.
