80: 69th minute v Besiktas 8-0 (Home, Champions League,November 6 2007): YOSSI BENAYOUN grabbed a hat-trick and Liverpool’s 500th goal in European competition. But Gerrard played his part as Liverpool equalled the Champions League record win. Gerrard raced on to Javier Mascherano pass, before bursting forward, exchanging passes with Andrei Voronin and lashed in Liverpool’s fifth goal via a deflection off Lamine Diatta.

81: 85th minute (pen) Fulham 2-0 (Home, Premier League, November 10 2007): GERRARD sealed the points from the spot. Carlos Bocanegra caught Peter Crouch on the edge of the area and skipper Gerrard slotted home low to Niemi’s left as the keeper went the wrong way.

82: 27th minute v Newcastle 3-0 (Away, Premier League, November 24 2007): FERNANDO TORRES was fouled by Emre 25 yards out and from the resultant free-kick Gerrard lashed a fantastic shot past Shay Given after Lucas has slipped the ball to one side.

83: 82nd minute (pen) v Porto 4-1 (Home, Champions League, November 28 2007): GERRARD fired home an 84th-minute penalty despite Fernando Torres being on a hat-trick. The strike moved him level with Michael Owen on 22 goals as the club’s leading scorer in European competition. Milan Stepanov had handled his initial free-kick.

84: 56th minute (pen) v Bolton 4-0 (Home, Premier League, December 2 2007): GERRARD scored his eighth goal in his last nine matches when he rammed home Liverpool’s third from the penalty spot after Peter Crouch had been impeded by both Abdoulaye Meite and Lubomir Michalik.

85: 28th minute v Reading 1-3 (Away, Premier League, December 8 2007): LIVERPOOL had gone behind to a controversial penalty, but Gerrard put them level. Fernando Torres had controlled Reina’s long punt forward and his captain collected his pass in his stride, held off the challenge of Stephen Hunt and slipped the ball beyond Marcus Hahnemann.

86: Fourth minute v Marseille 4-0 (Away, Champions League. December 11 2007): IN a must-win game for Liverpool’s bid to progress from the Champions League group stages, an early penalty was the perfect start. Having been brought down himself, although Gerrard’s initial effort was saved, he followed up to start a superb 4-0 victory. The goal was Gerrard’s 23rd in Europe to make him the club’s highest-ever goalscorer in Continental combat.

87: 90th minute v Derby County 2-1 (Away, Premier League, December 26 2007): AFTER Fernando Torres has given Liverpool the lead, Rafael Benitez’s side had made heavy weather of defeating the Premier League bottom club. Gerrard came to the rescue. In injury time he bundled home the loose ball after Torres was denied by Lewis Price.

88: 52nd minute v Luton 5-0 (Home, FA Cup, January 15 2008): GERRARD scored the second when following a deep cross by Jermaine Pennant, Peter Crouch headed back across goal and as the ball bounced up the midfielder headed home.

89: 64th minute v Luton 5-0 (Home, FA Cup, January 15 2008): GERRARD scored his second when side-footing into the bottom corner from 20 yards after a Fernando Torres shot had deflected into his path.
