gerrard torres 200
Torres tasted success in 2008 when he scored the winning goal for Spain in the European Championship final but his club have not won any silverware since their FA Cup triumph of 2006.
He added: “I want 2009 to be better than 2008 in terms of Liverpool.
“We have the Cup and also the Premier League and the Champions League to try and do well in.
“We know the Premier League is very important for the fans. We are at the top of the table and we will try and stay there.”
Torres will also be buoyed by the FA Cup fourth round draw, which paired Liverpool with Merseyside rivals Everton.
Two of his six goals this season came in the derby at Goodison, making it three goals in his two appearances against Everton.
Their cup meeting will be the second between the sides at Anfield in a week later this month, giving Torres two chances to break his home duck for this campaign.
But the 24-year-old is in no doubt about the affection that the Anfield faithful hold for him, even when he spent a month out of action.
“The relationship I have with the fans is special. I know that,” said Torres.
“When I was injured to hear them still singing their song was special. I could hear it on the TV when I was at home. That is fantastic.
“They seem to love me and I want to win the Premier League for this club.”
As one Spaniard returned from a lay-off on Saturday, another was hit with a fresh injury concern.
Xabi Alonso needed seven stitches in his foot following a late tackle form Preston’s Richard Chaplow and LIverpool are waiting on news of the extent of the damage.
