Lancs quartet to start

FOUR Lancashire contracted players are to play regularly in the Chapel Press Cheshire County League’s strong ECB Premier Division when the season gets under way tomorrow.

Young batsman Adrian Shankar makes his debut for Neston at Chester Boughton Hall, under the captaincy of Aussie Jack Smith.

Neston expect this to be a red-letter season, with a refurbished £750,000 pavilion due to be opened in a month’s time.

Reigning champions Alderley Edge have Lancashire paceman Oliver Newby in action when they open with a visit from newly-promotedOxton.

The remaining two county men, paceman Steven Cheetham and wicketkeeper Gareth Cross are registered with Bowdon, who host promoted Didsbury.

Widnes go to Oulton Park boasting the acquisition of brothers Atur and Zia ur Rehman, the former an ex-Pakistan Test batsman who has been starring with Northop Hall. The league’s top-ranked newcomer, however, must be recently-retired New Zealand Test batsman Lou Vincent, who debuts for Nantwich against Macclesfield.
