Liverpool Reserves 3, Bolton Reserves 4

JAY SPEARING hit a superb hat-trick, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Liverpool slipping to a 4-3 defeat against Bolton Wanderers in the FA Premier Reserve League Northern Section at Warrington last night.

Liverpool took an early lead when Spearing sprung the offside trap to latch onto Mikel San Jose’s fine pass and calmly roll past the keeper.

Bolton hit back within minutes through, when Makukula scored.

Spearing restored their advantage when he exchanged passes with Dani Pacheco to drill home a low shot.

Five minutes before the break Bolton levelled again as keeper Martin Hansen was beaten to a corner by Tamir Cohen, son of ex-Liverpool star Avi.

Spearing completed his hat-trick when he converted a penalty after Krisztian Nemeth had been upended.

In the second half Makukula levelled and then completed his hat-trick just before full-time.

Liverpool are still bottom, and face Hull this Thursday.

LIVERPOOL RESERVES: Hansen, Mendy, Darby, San Jose, Antwi, Palsson, Simon (Flora 83), Spearing, Nemeth (Crowther 68), Pacheco, Bruna (McKay-Steven 73).
