XABI ALONSO’S agent, Inaki Ibanez, has refused to rule out a summer move to Real Madrid for one of Liverpool’s players of the season.
But the player himself insists he wants his long-term future to remain at Anfield.
Alonso’s agent has been sounded out by Florentino Perez, the man bidding to become president at the Bernabeu, and even though he still has three years left on his contract, Ibanez, said: “Many things could happen in the summer.
“The first is to finish the season and after that to attend to other matters. Xabi has signed for three more years and his future depends on Liverpool.”
It was only last summer that Liverpool were reportedly willing to sell the 27-year-old and replace him with Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry – a player Rafael Benitez could go back in for during the summer transfer window.
But Alonso said only last week: “A lot of things have changed for me during my time here and now I am looking forward to my sixth season as a Liverpool player.
“I have seen this kind of situation so many times in my career. It is just rumours and you can’t be talking about them because there is nothing more than this so far.”
Instead Alonso preferred to concentrate on how Liverpool could improve on this season’s near miss in the Premier League title race.
