FORMER Liverpool FC players Ian Callaghan and Gerry Byrne were among members of England’s 1966 World Cup-winning squad to be presented with their winners’ medals at a reception in Downing Street yesterday.
In 1966, only the 11 players on the pitch at the final whistle were awarded medals.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Gordon Brown handed newly-minted replicas out to the other players and families of the backroom staff.
