Athletics: West Cheshire enjoy success at Litherland

WEST CHESHIRE AC’s senior squad have strengthened their hopes of promotion.

The Chester and Ellesmere Port-based club enhanced their command at the top of the Northern Senior Track and Field League Division Two West table after their second round match at Litherland.

Dave McKay headed the purple-vested club’s charge to pole position with a hat-trick of victories from the hammer (46.53m), javelin (60.58m), and shot put (12.06m).

He was backed up in the men’s squad by Carl Van Schie, Tom Booth, Michael Lyness, Andrew McKay, Andrew Gore, Andrew Whitton, Robbie Dagnall, John Manning, Stephen Jones, Tom Walley, Aidan Stoakley, Alec Beaney, Andrew Clague, Steve Crowe, Dave Alexander, and Alan Littler.

Carl won the 110m hurdles (17.0) alongside B winner Tom Booth (18.7), before winning the long jump (6.23m) alongside B winner Andrew Whitton (5.91m), and then claimed top spot in the B shot with 9.90m.

Tom Booth had kicked off the proceedings on the track on a winning note with a 400m hurdles victory of 60.3 seconds, and Michael Lyness was a tenth of a second away from a B win with 64.8, before clearing 1.90m for victory in the high jump alongside second placed B club-mate Alan Littler (1.65m).

Steve Crowe rounded the 5,000m in 16:18.1 for second spot and Dave Alexander won the B event with 16:58.5, while Alec Beaney finished third in the 1,500m (4:14.9), and Andrew Clague was fifth B (5:09.0).

The quartet of Leah Ferrie, Danielle Erskine, Shona Valentine, and Emily Done secured success with a time of 52.0 seconds in the women’s 4x100m relay.

And the foursome of Bryony Potter, Emily Done, Shona Valentine, and Danielle Erskine posted 4:23.4 for second place in the women’s 4x400m relay.
