TRANMERE WILL be hoping for another bumper summer gate when they play host to a Liverpool XI in a pre-season friendly on Friday, July 24 (kick-off 7.45pm).

Prenton Park was packed with a sell-out crowd when a young Liverpool side took on Rovers in a similar fixture 12 months ago, with the visitors winning 1-0.

Tranmere’s new manager John Barnes said: “This is a great chance for my squad to show what they can do and hopefully both sets of fans will enjoy the game. I look forward to welcoming my former club to Prenton Park ahead of the new season.”

Rovers will not be able to test themselves against the full might of Liverpool’s Premier League squad, many of whom will be on a pre-season tour of the Far East.

Admission in all stands will be: Adults £12, Seniors (60+) and Young Persons £6 and Juniors £4.

Suite prices, which include free programmes and refreshments, have also been reduced for the match to: Dixie Dean Suite: Adults £22, Juniors £11 (also includes hot and cold buffet) (contact Dawn Roberts on 0151 609 3336 for availability).

Vice Presidents’ Suite: Adults £18, Juniors £9 (also includes half-time snack).

Tranmere Suite: Adults £15, Juniors £7.50.

Tranmere Suite, Vice Presidents’ Suite and Dixie Dean Suite season ticket holders will be admitted free of charge.

Admission is cash on the turnstiles for all areas except the Main Stand and suites.

Young Persons tickets must be purchased in advance with proof of age (passport or drivers licence).

Tickets are available from Monday, June 29.

Liverpool’s visit is one of three pre-season friendlies at Prenton Park this summer.

Preston visit on Saturday, July 18 and Shrewsbury on Saturday, August 1.

Meanwhile Tranmere fans have until next Tuesday to leave their own imprint on the most comprehensive book on Rovers yet produced.

Tranmere Rovers – The Complete Record by club historians Gil Upton, Steve Wilson and Peter Bishop is to be published in August.

Supporters who pre-order the book by Tuesday June 30 can have a name of their choice listed on a ‘Roll of Honour’ within the its pages.

All they have to do is complete a form in the club shop or download the form from the club website.
