Wrexham are expected to face stiff competition for the 20-year-old, who scored four goals in 21 appearances for the Dragons.

However, Saunders is hopeful he can persuade Flynn to return to the Racecourse after a spell in North Wales gave the Scottish youngster’s career the perfect boost.

Saunders said: “I’m hopeful he’ll come to us, although I know he’s probably got options.

“I’m hoping he’ll come back to us, and I’m hoping he’ll come back training stronger and fitter as he’ll be a year older. Hopefully he’ll have learned from last year and the time he spent with us will have done him good.”

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez believes another temporary switch will aid Flynn’s development, and a number of clubs are interested in him.

Threlfall said: “Liverpool are prepared to loan out Ryan during this summer’s transfer window. This is a big year for Ryan and he wants to be playing regular first-team football to continue his development.

“I have had a few enquiries for Ryan and we will sit down and decide what is the best option for him before deciding where to go.”

Flynn graduated from Liverpool’s Academy in the summer of 2006 after joining the club from Falkirk.

He was a key part of the club’s successive FA Youth Cup wins, scoring in the final against Manchester City in 2006 and bagging three goals during the 2007 campaign.

He is yet to make his senior debut for Liverpool but has featured in several pre-season friendlies.
