Liverpool FC latest: Glen Johnson ready to go as Rafael Benitez stands firm over Javier Mascherano

Transfer speculation still revolves around the Argentina captain, as well as Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso, who is due to join up with the squad on Sunday after the friendly with Rapid Vienna in the Austrian capital.

And with Alonso increasingly likely to depart for Real Madrid, Mascherano will be told by Benitez that he must honour his contract at Anfield, which has two years remaining.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are set to strengthen their links with Hungarian club MTK Budapest by taking five of their most promising youngsters on trial.

The relationship with MTK has already seen Liverpool sign four players including Nemeth and Gulacsi, who should both appear in Switzerland tonight, and now Benitez will assess the latest quintet.

Goalkeeper Attila Abu, midfielders Krisztian Adorjan and Patrik Vass, striker Peter Horvath and defender Patrik Poor have all been invited to Liverpool’s academy after impressing academy director Frank McParland on a recent scouting mission.
