He added: “We’re not looking to steal it, we’ve offered what we believe is the value of Newcastle.
“It’s a serious and genuine offer.
“Mike Ashley has had a lot of criticism but he was brave enough to go in there in the first place. He lost a lot of money on it but he was there when Newcastle needed him.
“The mess at Newcastle is the attraction. We think we can clean the mess up and run it properly as a business.
“With the expertise we have, we can make it work.”
McMahon also revealed that if the purchase goes through then Alan Shearer would be handed the manager’s job on a full-time basis.
“We would certainly be looking to keep Alan,” he said.
“He would be a major draw for players and supporters. He’s part of the future for Newcastle if we get the club.”
