JOHN BARNES saluted the qualities that make Steven Gerrard “a world-class footballer” after the Liverpool midfielder’s 65-minute appearance at Prenton Park on Friday.
Gerrard scored a trademark goal as a youthful Liverpool XI played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in a pre-season friendly against Tranmere.
Only hours earlier, Gerrard had been acquitted on charges of affray at Liverpool Crown Court.
Rovers manager Barnes said: “Other good players may have Steven Gerrard’s qualities in terms of ability but don’t have his attitude, which is fantastic.
“Combine all of Steven Gerrard’s attributes, his commitment and desire as well as the ability he possesses, and you have a world-class player.”
