Liverpool FC’s under-18s coach Rodolfo Borrell starts his tenure in style as his team beats Fulham 3-1

Borrell said: “Pre-season has been a good building process and we have taken that into the season. But now we have to take it into the next match.

“Leicester won 4-3 in their first game and we know it will be another difficult game. They played Fulham in pre-season and they won 3-1. They are another strong team with some good qualities.”

Defenders Andre Wisdom and Conor Coady are both away with John Peacock’s England under-17s squad for this week’s four-team tournament against includes Italy, Portugal and Turkey.

LIVERPOOL UNDER-18s: Oldfield; Flanagan, Wisdom, Coady, McGiveron; Roddan, Cooper (Sama 70), Dawson (Giglio 80), Ince; Adorjan, Dalla Valle. Subs: Chamberlain, Robinson, Roberts.
