Academy Football: Powerful Leicester beat young Reds - Liverpool FC latest

Following a corner Oldfield fisted partially clear, but Leicester’s John Jorrin crossed back into the six-yard box and Tom Parkes headed home. Oldfield had to be stretchered off and Jacob made his debut, having done likewise for the reserves at Blackburn Rovers earlier in the week.

From then on it was all Leicester, apart from a couple of half chances which Adam Dawson and Lauri Dalla Valle failed to take.

Set-pieces were causing most problems and Jacob had to make a couple of decent saves. But goals from Cian Bolger and Elliott Chamberlain completed Leicester’s victory.

Coach Borrell was naturally disappointed and said: “They were incredibly bigger than us – stronger, quicker and everything better.”

LIVERPOOL UNDER-18s: Oldfield (Jacob 36); Flanagan, McGiveron (Robinson 64), Coady, Wisdom; Cooper, Rodden, Dawson (Sama 46), Ince; Dalla Valle, Adorjan. Subs: Giglio, Ihiekwe.
