Earlier this year, there was media speculation that Liverpool was working on a new, record £60m deal with Carlsberg.
Prior to the Carlsberg deal, Liverpool FC was sponsored by Italian electrical goods giant Candy and, until 1988, by local firm Crown Paints..
The deal is understood to have been signed on Friday, and represents the first major business transaction since new managing director Christian Purslow took the reins.
The deal is expected to be formally announced at an Anfield press conference later today.
