DAVID NGOG scored the only goal of the game to give 10-man Liverpool Reserves a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the FA Premier Reserve League Northern Section at Prenton Park last night.
The French striker scored after just four minutes, but John McMahon’s side had to dig deep for victory following the dismissal of midfielder Damien Plessis in the first half.
It was Liverpool’s second win in their opening three matches.
Ngog broke the deadlock four minutes in when a long punt upfield from goalkeeper David Martin caused confusion in the United back-line and Liverpool’s French striker managed to nip in ahead of two defenders to head in past keeper Ron-Robert Zieler.
United striker Federico Macheda was denied by a smart stop from Martin minutes later, while at the other end Nathan Eccleston saw a shot from David Amoo’s pass cleared off the line by right-back David Gray.
Liverpool dominated much of the half but on 34 minutes Plessis was given a straight red after a studs-high challenge on United’s Magnus Eikrem.
Coach McMahon changed things around with Jay Spearing coming on.
Liverpool battled well to hold onto their advantage and Martin again denied Macheda.
While near the end Ngog almost added a second but headed wide from close-range.
LIVERPOOL RESERVES: Martin, Darby, Irwin, Ayala, Mavinga, Palsson, Ngog (Saric 77), Amoo (Mendy 71), Eccleston, Plessis, Kacaniklic (Spearing 39). Subs: Hansen, Buchtmann.
