Stevie Heighway on the wing to give you Moore 70s nostalgia - Liverpool FC nostalgia

There are even rare mistakes by Ray Clemence, dropping crosses before the likes of Grobbelaar, James and Hooper made it commonplace round the fields of Anfield Road.

The big sides throughout the 70s – Leeds United, Derby, QPR and er, Terry Venables’ soon to be ‘team of the 80s’ Crystal Palace are all beaten at Anfield, while commentator Sinstadt is told in no uncertain terms by the Kop, that the ‘Party’s only starting’ during the Londoners’ visit. A reference to his never forgotten – by Liverpool fans anyway – gaffe near the end of the decade when following an iffy run of results, sound familiar, he pondered whether the Anfield empire was crumbling and that the party was indeed over.

Following Keegan and Toshack we speed forward to the reign of King Kenny, who shows his full repertoire with dink finishes, superb curlers and cheeky backheels.

While one lob from Ray Kennedy was the very definition of sublime.

The rout and classic final goal by Terry McDermott in the magnificent seven against Tottenham is always worth as rerun. Before and after the game there was the then new innovation ‘Fans zone’ with a supporter from each club. Brian Jones from Huyton thought Liverpool’s players were “all fantastic”. While Emlyn Hughes enthuses over the virtues of Dalglish, and fellow kipper-tie wearer Jimmy Armfield says “no team is better than Liverpool in the first division”.

Moore says after another mauling, it was “the complete performance again from Liverpool”. And while this isn’t quite the complete collections of the 70s it’s a nostalgic glimpse of when the League title was in almost permanent residence at Anfield. Times have changed.
