The likes of last season’s top scorer, Finnish striker Lauri Dalle Valle – who is currently out injured – German youth international Christopher Buchtmann, defender Andre Wisdom, Tom Ince, Adam Pepper, Conor Coady, Karl Clair and James Ellison are some of the players still eligible to feature again in this season’s tournament after being involved in last season’s run to the final.
Holders Arsenal, who beat Liverpool in last year’s two-legged final, are also at home to either Bradford City or Crewe Alexandra.
While Merseyside neighbours Tranmere Rovers have a home tie against Ipswich Town.
Meanwhile on Saturday Liverpool thought they had done enough for a point at Wolves.
Despite going behind early in the second half to an Andre Landell strike, Borrell’s side drew level thanks to a goal from Wisdom. But Wolves sealed all three points with five minutes left with a Jack Price goal scored the winner.
Liverpool will look to bounce back when they host Manchester United at the Kirkby Academy this Saturday (kick-off 11am).
Borrell’s side are still in fifth position in the Group C table and are eight points off leaders Blackburn Rovers and just three behind second-placed United.
