WRITER Dave Kirby admits it was a dream come true when members of Liverpool’s first team squad agreed to be cast in his latest production, Fifteen Minutes That Shook The World.
The acclaimed Liverpool playwright makes his first foray onto the big screen with the untold story of what happened during half time in Istanbul.
The film received its world premiere in Liverpool last night.
Speaking at the screening, Dave said: "On a recent visit to Melwood, Rafe Benitez told us he had seen the movie trailer clip of himself played by Neil Fitzmaurice and said it was a great performance.
"Jamie and Stevie have watched my comedy plays at the theatre and when I approached them with the film script they thought it was hilarious and decided to get involved.
"We also agreed the movie would raise awareness and funds for Jamie’s new charity, The 23 Foundation.
"We had to wait until the end of the season to shoot it, but it was well worth the wait, especially when Jamie was able to get Didi Hamann involved.
"His entrance into the film is priceless.
"Like every Liverpool fan, I always wondered exactly what happened in the dressing room at half time."
Last night’s screening at the Odeon cinema in Liverpool One was attended by Liverpool greats past and present including Steven Gerrard, Kenny Dalglish, Phil Thompson, John Aldridge and Jamie Carragher, as well as Benitez and his wife, Montse.
Jamie said: "All our supporters always wanted to know what happened at half time in Istanbul.
"The truth was we picked ourselves up, even though it was difficult.
"It was a special time and to come back makes it even more special."
THE film is due to be released on DVD later this month. All our supporters think something special must have happened.
"If the film does well we hope it will raise money for my charity, the 23 Foundation."
"I always imagined Rafa gave some kind of Churchill speech but when the r5epots came back all described the drissing roomo as complete calm and I was gutted.
