That will put him just 20 matches behind another legendary Reds defender, Alan Hansen.
“I knew how many games I was on but not what other people had achieved,” said Carragher.
“Hopefully I can get close to that record towards the end of the season.
“To even be spoken of in the same breath as Alan Hansen is great.
“Hansen is a legend at this club. He was a great player.
“I feel privileged to be anywhere near him in terms of the number of games played for the club.”
Carragher is on course to surpass Emlyn Hughes and Ray Clemence's total of 665 Liverpool games, moving him up to second in the club's all-time list of appearances.
Ian Callaghan is the outright leader having played a remarkable 857 times for the Reds, a record of which Carragher concedes: “No, no, no. I'm not going to get near that am I? No chance!”
