Michael Ngoo seals comeback victory for Liverpool Academy against Bolton Wanderers

GOALS from Tom Ince and Michael Ngoo saw Liverpool under-18s fight back to score an excellent 2-1 victory at Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.

Rodolfo Borrell’s side have responded well to going out of the FA Youth Cup and are unbeaten in FA Premier Academy League since the disappointing Anfield defeat to Watford. They have won two and drawn one in their three games since.

Saturday saw them fight back after going a goal down.

Bolton took the lead following a breakaway after the home side cleared a Liverpool free-kick quickly. But Liverpool fought back and equalised with 10 minutes to go. Ince arrived late to fire in at the far post.

Then with just a minute remaining former Southend striker Ngoo fired in a similar effort on the opposite side of the goal to give Borrell’s youngsters all three points.

The Spanish coach was delighted with his side’s performance and fighting qualities.

Liverpool will look to carry on their recent good form when they take on Everton at Finch Farm this afternoon in the rearranged Merseyside derby which was postponed in January. The first derby at Kirkby was won 2-0 by Everton.

On Saturday Liverpool face Leeds United at the Kirkby Academy (kick-off 11am).

Borrell’s side remain in eighth position in the 10-team Group C division of the Academy League. But in one of the tightest sections just 10 points separate the entire division, with Liverpool just five points behind current leaders Manchester United – although they have played more games than all of the rivals.

LIVERPOOL UNDER-18s: Oldfield; Flanagan, Sama, McGiveron, Robinson; Roddan (Roberts 67), Wisdom (Ngoo 59), Coady, Ince; Dalla Vale (Emilsson 65), Adorjan. Subs: Cooper, Chamberlain
