Liverpool FC reserves are held

DESPITE taking the lead through Martin Kelly Liverpool Reserves at to settle for a point in a 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic in the FA Premier Reserve League Northern Section at Prenton Park last night.

Right-back Kelly fired in early in the second half, but within a few minutes Jordan Mustoe has equalised for Wigan.

John McMahon’s side are now unbeaten in 15 matches and are six points behind leaders Manchester United – although they do have three games in hand.

Liverpool went close in the first half with Lauri Wigan keeper Lee Nicholls tipped a header from Alex Kacaniklic superbly over the bar. And Dalla Valle was denied by the keeper and also headed against the bar from a cross by Francisco Duran.

Liverpool took the lead 12 minutes after the restart when Kelly blasted home after Jordy Brouwer had knocked Duran’s free-kick back across goal.

Two minutes later Mustoe fired in a low free-kick from 20 yards for the equaliser.

Dalla Valla, Steve Irwin went close before Wigan’s Steven Boothman was sent off in injury-time for a professional foul on Brouwer.
