David Ngog makes it sweet 16 as Liverpool FC reserves close the gap

LIVERPOOL Reserves moved to within three points of leaders Manchester United at the top of the Barclays Premier Reserve League North after a 2-1 victory over Bolton last night.

It was David Ngog who made the difference as, after coming on as a half-time substitute, he broke the deadlock with 18 minutes left.

Then Bolton captain Rhys Bennett deflected Gerardo Bruna’s free-kick beyond his own goalkeeper to make it 2-0.

Zoltan Harsanyi reduced the arrears in stoppage time, but John McMahon’s men held out to cut the gap on pacesetters United at the top of the table – but Liverpool still have two games in hand.

They are looking like they are in the right kind of form to take advantage too – this victory extended their unbeaten run to 16 games.

McMahon’s team included the likes of Nabil El Zhar , Dani Pacheco and Daniel Ayala but it was Ngog who set up the win when he tapped in fellow sub Alex Cooper’s cross.

LIVERPOOL RESERVES: Gulacsi, Irwin, Mavinga (Cooper 66), Ayala, Palsson, Pacheco, El Zhar (Ngog 46), Amoo, Dalla Valle (Brouwer 54), Plessis, runa. Subs: Kohlert, Oldfield.
