PEPE REINA is refusing to throw in the towel despite Liverpool’s hopes of Champions League qualification now left hanging by a thread.
Yesterday’s frustrating goalless draw at home to Fulham has left Rafael Benitez’s side six points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City having played a game more.
With only four Premier League matches remaining, Reina admits it is unlikely Liverpool can avoid missing out on the Champions League for the first time since 2002-03.
But the goalkeeper, who last week penned a new six-year deal at the club, is intent on not giving up the fight.
“Before this game we knew we couldn’t make any more mistakes and we’ve gone and dropped two points,” said Reina.
“Now it’s going to be even more difficult to get fourth.
“But we’ll keep fighting until the end and win as many points as possible. We have to keep working no matter what.
“You have to give credit to Fulham.
“They were well organised and defended very well. The result was fair enough, it’s not like other games where we may have missed a lot of chances.
“We tried our best but it wasn’t enough. We have another tough game coming up on Monday against West Ham who are fighting against relegation. We have to keep going.”
The result means Fulham have taken four points from six against Liverpool this season having won 3-1 at Craven Cottage before Christmas.
Like Benitez’s side, the Londoners progressed to the semi-finals of the Europa League on Thursday after an impressive 1-0 win at German side Wolfsburg.
