Ryan Babel issues warning to title-chasing Chelsea that Liverpool are keen to bounce back after Euro misery
RYAN BABEL has warned Chelsea to prepare for a Liverpool backlash as he spoke of the squad’s determination to make their last home game of the season a winning one.
The Reds have had little time to recover from Thursday night’s exertions against Atletico Madrid but there is no room for any feelings of self-pity with Chelsea due at Anfield.
Many people have predicted Chelsea will find things comfortable tomorrow, with it being suggested that Liverpool are lacking enthusiasm for the fixture.
A Chelsea victory would, of course, ruin Manchester United’s hopes of winning a 19th league title but Babel has bristled at suggestions that Liverpool will roll over.
If anything, he says the opposite is true; with this having been such a huge disappointing season, the Holland forward says he and his team-mates owe their fans a victory.
“We aren’t thinking about anything that people might be saying about Manchester United and everything (about the title race),” said Babel.
“We have still got something to fight for and we are determined to try and win the rest of our games. We are all hoping that our rivals will drop some points.
“We still have to hope that we can get fourth place and we are going to do everything we can to get it. That’s why it is so important we perform.”
Reds boss Rafa Benitez – who continues to be linked in the Italian media with a move to Juventus – will make changes to his starting line-up tomorrow.
Maxi Rodriguez will return after ineligibility ruled him out of the Atletico game and there is a chance Sotirios Kyrgiakos will slot back into the centre of the defence.
There is not much, however, that Benitez will be able to do to freshen up those who were involved in the Europa League semi-final and Babel has explained his disappointment.
