Rafa Benitez 300
RAFAEL BENITEZ stepped back from the brink yesterday as he sought to clear the uncertainty surrounding his position by declaring his desire to remain as Liverpool manager.
But the Spaniard will still seek reassurances from new chairman Martin Broughton when the two meet for the second time later this week.
Benitez, who saw Liverpool complete their Premier League campaign with a low-key goalless draw at relegated Hull City yesterday, was encouraged by the “positive” discussions.
And when asked if his situation will be resolved this week, the Spaniard said: “We will see. I decided to come here because of the fans and club. I want to stay if everything is fine.
“I was in a meeting the other day with the chairman. He was talking about how positive the meeting was and hopefully we will have another meeting this week.
“The stability of the club is important. We have to move forward in everything. We have another meeting and hopefully we can progress. I gave them my impression and ideas.
“We have to talk about everything, including money for players. Every meeting has helped.”
