ROY HODGSON today spoke of his enormous pride and delight after taking on "The biggest job in club football."
The 62-year-old officially became Liverpool’s 12th post-war manager this morning and was settling into his new surrounds at the club’s Melwood training base.
He has signed a three-year contract and scotched suggestions that there is an escape clause in the deal that would allow him to become England manager if that post becomes available.
On the day the club’s record-breaking sponsorship deal with Standard Chartered kicked in, Hodgson met with the Liverpool players who have not been to the World Cup and was familiarising himself with his new surrounds.
It was clear to see, as he sat on the veranda overlooking one of the many training pitches at Melwood, that he was honoured at being chosen to succeed Rafael Benitez and has vowed to do his utmost to bring the club success.
