Fernando Torres for Spain
LIVERPOOL face an anxious wait to resolve the future of Fernando Torres.
The in demand striker has said he intends to take a holiday following his World Cup exertions before seeking clarification of what he has referred to as ‘the real situation’ at Liverpool before committing to the club.
The Spain international has been at the centre of growing uncertainty linking him with a move away from Anfield this summer.
Torres is said to have become concerned about the direction of the club, that is around £350 million in debt.
In March he claimed the squad needs ‘four or five players of the highest level’ to compete at the top of the table.
Since then Liverpool finished seventh in the Premier League to miss out on a Champions League berth for the forthcoming season.
In addition, Rafael Benitez has been replaced with new manager Roy Hodgson.
Now Torres is likely to want reassurance that the club can still match his ambition.
Chelsea, Manchester City and Barcelona are all said to be interested in the prolific forward, although Liverpool maintain he is not for sale.
