FERNANDO TORRES has told Liverpool he is looking forward to playing for the club in the new season – as new Anfield manager Roy Hodgson prepared to travel for his first competitive game without any of his England World Cup contingent.

Speculation increased over the weekend concerning the future of Torres after Hodgson was quoted as saying the striker “had beef” with the club.

That prompted rumours of an imminent departure with Chelsea known admirers and Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini publicly restating his admiration for the player.

Torres, who is currently nursing an adductor injury suffered while helping Spain beat Holland in the World Cup final earlier this month, is due to return to Melwood on Monday after a holiday.

And while dismissing fresh reports Torres wants to play Champions League football this season, Hodgson yesterday revealed the 26-year-old’s eagerness to be reunited with his team-mates.
