Lucas’ pride at leading Liverpool FC to Europa League victory

LUCAS has revealed his pride at skippering Liverpool to a 2-0 victory over FK Rabotnicki in Thursday’s Europa League third qualifying round first leg in Macedonia.

The Brazilian midfielder led an inexperienced Reds side to a comfortable win in Roy Hodgson’s first competitive match in charge.

“It’s a really good achievement for me,” he said. “I am really proud and happy, but of course the most important thing was to get the win.

“I know there are a lot of senior players in front of me but hopefully I did a good job and can keep going.”

Despite David Ngog’s double putting the Reds firmly in control, Lucas is taking nothing for granted ahead of this Thursday’s second leg at Anfield.

“We are really pleased to get our first win of the season,” he added.

“It was an important game and we scored two away goals without conceding.

“We’ve started in the right way and hopefully we can keep the same level for the next match.
